Sunny Kilogram?

We have been asked, on more than one occasion, what the name of our company means. We thought it would be helpful to provide a visual explanation (and a teeny, tiny lesson in Chinese) here.

Sunny Kilogram is a loose, pictorial translation of one of the characters of our founder Cathleen Tseng’s Chinese name—昕 (hsin), which carries the meaning of ‘dawn’ in English.

Hsin

As is sometimes the case in Chinese, a character can be comprised of two or more other ideographic or pictographic characters, and 昕 is one such compound ideogram. It can actually be broken up into two distinct characters, each with its own meaning:

Hsin

And that’s the story behind the company name. We hope that solved the mystery and that the language lesson wasn’t too painful.
