We have been asked, on more than one occasion, what the name of our company means. We thought it would be helpful to provide a visual explanation (and a teeny, tiny lesson in Chinese) here.
Sunny Kilogram is a loose, pictorial translation of one of the characters of our founder Cathleen Tseng’s Chinese name—昕 (hsin), which carries the meaning of ‘dawn’ in English.
As is sometimes the case in Chinese, a character can be comprised of two or more other ideographic or pictographic characters, and 昕 is one such compound ideogram. It can actually be broken up into two distinct characters, each with its own meaning:
